Recently our writing community lost one of its brightest lights in David Arnason. A teacher, colleague, mentor and friend, David will be missed by many. A finalist for the Leacock Medal for Humour (King Jerry) and a winner of the Carol Shields Winnipeg Book Award (The Imagined City), David’s numerous novels, short story collections, histories and even poetry leave behind a tremendous legacy of writing.
As an editor, David helped shape some of Turnstone’s most loved books in addition to the work he did to advance literature across Canada. Anyone who came into his orbit was struck by the magic and wonder he invoked in the world around him. As one of Turnstone’s guiding principals we will miss his counsel, insight, warmth and zest for life. We are all fortunate to have his tales to remember him by.
