Chronicles of the
Lost Years
a Sherlock Holmes Mystery
by Tracy Cooper-Posey
Watson takes up his pen one last time to
describe in a private memoir the true tale of Holmes adventures
during his three-year absence from Baker Street, and provides a
fictional explanation for many of the mysteries and inaccuracies
found with the Sherlock Holmes collection of stories and novels.
The answers come in
the shape of a womanElizabeth Sigerson. Elizabeth is independent,
practical, a crack shot with a pistol, and definitely not a woman
of her time. Elizabeth can more than hold her own against Holmes'
abilities, but she has a secret that Holmes is compelled to solve.
Elizabeth is embroiled
in Holmes life at a time when Holmes is building his scheme
to expose Moriarty. She is to remain a vital yet secret part of
his life for thirteen yearsnot only sharing Holmes journey
around Asia and his return to London, but also helping him survive
the dangers he meets along the way. With Watsons connivance
they settle into a secret, hedonistic life together. But Moriarty
has not finished with them yet; he escapes his Dartmoor prison and
returns to exact revenge. He abducts Elizabeth and the games
afoot!
Chronicles of the Lost
Years brilliantly replicates Sir
Arthur Conan Doyles narrative style, using Watson as the first-person
narrator. It takes a more humane perspective of Sherlock Holmes,
a perspective that has become popular since Jeremy Bretts
brilliant portrayal of the great detective in the Thames Television
series. This book won the Sherlock Holmes Societys Best Pastiche
Award in 1995.
