A small literary press located in the middle of the Canadian prairie, Turnstone Press is one of the most highly regarded literary presses in Western Canada. Conceived in 1975 in a Winnipeg pub by four original board members, Turnstone Press was to have published and promoted Manitoba poets. And we still do, although we have also grown and changed a great deal over the past twenty-four years, becoming a consistent and respected presence within the industry, publishing not only poetry but also fiction, literary criticism and non-fiction.

Despite the risk inherent in publishing new Canadian literary writing, Turnstone Press remains committed to pursuing and promoting new, thought-provoking books. As part of ongoing change and growth, in 1998 Turnstone Press launched a new imprint of literary genre titles—Ravenstone.

Ravenstone is devoted to literary and experimental mysteries. We are interested in tightly written, well-plotted, manuscripts in the sub-genres of hardboiled, neo-noir, police procedural, private eye, suspense, and thriller. We have an open door policy towards manuscripts—receive about twelve hundred unsolicited manuscripts a year. Only ten to twelve are published. One to two of those are Ravenstone titles. We pride ourselves in offering a quality of long-term support authors are unlikely to get elsewhere. Our staff spends a great deal of time with writers, getting them involved with the editing, design, and the marketing of their own book.

Canadian writing has never been more exciting, and Ravenstone is proud to have been a part of its history and keenly looks forward to the future.
